BEST AND WORST PLAYER
TEAM RATINGS
Bayern München
- 1M. NeuerUncharacteristically sloppy with the ball, but some timely saves proved very important.
- 21P. LahmA master class performance by the midfielder. Tireless work in defence, while providing some sensational balls towards the front three.
- 27D. AlabaAssumed a greater defensive role in the 3-4-3 and performed his duties well. A lovely through ball to Lewandowski nearly helped put the game out of reach.
- 4DantePanicked far too often in defence, failing to make the smart play. Really seemed to struggle as the second half wore on.
- 28H. BadstuberDefensive work was above average, but he was not tested much early on.
- 19M. GötzeHardly factored into the result. Saw little of the ball and was especially wasteful in possession in the opening minutes.
- 10A. RobbenHe was brilliant in his new role. Got up and down the flank superbly, assisting the opener and scoring the winner. Proved near impossible to deal with throughout the 90 minutes.
- 18Juan BernatA key defensive play on De Bruyne was his most important contribution, though he did not manage to factor much into the attack until late on.
- 16G. GaudinoImpressive debut from the 17-year-old. A lovely pass to Lewandowski just about set up the opening goal early on. Showed no signs of intimidation.
- 9R. LewandowskiMade some great runs. His movement off the ball was good, but perhaps nerves took over as he could not finish his plethora of chances.
- 25T. MüllerScored the opening goal with a nice touch, and was very lively in attack. Needed to be a bit more selfish at times.
Wolfsburg
- 20M. GrünNothing he could do about the opening goal. A giveaway failed him on the second. Made a number of fantastic saves to keep Wolfsburg in it. Some brilliant reactions and strong hands shown by the keeper.
- 25NaldoStruggled to deal with the physicality and good movement of Lewandowski. Still not at fault for either Bayern goal.
- 24S. JungGot forward on a few occasions early on, but faded as the match went on. Defensively sound, really managed to minimize the threat down the left of Bayern's attack.
- 31R. KnocheHad his hands full, but managed to come out relatively unscathed. Positionally sound, limiting Bayern's chances in attack.
- 34R. RodriguezDefensive word could have been better, though a timely interception stopped what looked to be the opening goal in the first half. Sent some teasing balls in attack, but nothing came of them.
- 14K. De BruyneNot his usual self, but came to life as the match went on. His tireless legs proved a bit of a nuisance for Bayern to deal with, but he could not convert it into many scoring opportunities.
- 8VieirinhaCredited for an assist on the Olic goal, but it is a bit misleading as the striker did all of the work following the throw in. Never posed much of a threat and came off in the 60th minute.
- 22Luiz GustavoUndone by the quick passing attack of Bayern. Looked out of his depth at times, but did manage to make some timely tackles in defence. Subbed off with 20 minutes to play.
- 23J. GuilavoguiSloppy on the ball. A lazy giveaway to Arjen Robben directly led to the winning goal for the Dutchman.
- 10A. HuntFailed to make an impact on the match. Disappointing debut for the midfielder, who saw very little of the ball and failed to create anything in attack.
- 11I. OlićHis magnificent strike pulled Wolfsburg back into the match. Did not get the best of service, but needed to do a better job holding the ball up to wait for support.
Substitutes
- 27M. ArnoldA magnificent ball towards Malanda should have resulted in the tying goal. Really helped spring the team to life in attack after coming on at the break.
- 7D. CaligiuriMade his presence felt as a substitute, but will mostly be remember for failing to hit the target with a wide open header late in the match.
