Player Ratings. Manchester City 3-2 Bayern Munich
TEAM RATINGS
Manchester City
- 1J. HartAt fault for both Bayern goals. He first set himself up in a blind spot as Alonso beat him from a free kick and was out of position for Lewandowski's header.
- 20E. MangalaWas more comfortable than he had been in recent weeks with a series of blocks and interceptions.
- 22G. ClichyMade Arjen Robben work the other way with his own willingness to get forward but defended clumsily, giving away free kicks.
- 4V. KompanyDominated Lewandowski for a large part of the first half but lost the Pole at a crucial juncture on the header after fouling his man in the lead-up to the first.
- 3B. SagnaGenerally, he deputised well for Zabaleta as he was disciplined in his defending and got forward well. Should have fought harder against Lewandowski for the header, though.
- 15Jesús NavasA constant threat for Bayern to deal with down the right with his speed and played his part in the build-up to the penalty.
- 8S. NasriProvided some good link-up play in the City attack but was wasteful on occasion and lacked urgency.
- 18F. LampardCity's best player in midfield in the absence of Yaya Toure. The veteran was switched from central midfield to a position behind Aguero and found the Argentine with a through ball for the goal.
- 7J. MilnerStacked up the numbers in midfield against Bayern's depleted party after the sending-off of Benatia and enjoyed good spells of possession.
- 6FernandoOverrun in the midfield during the early part of the match but sat deep in an attempt to dislodge Bayern's possession game.
- 16S. AgüeroHow long can City rely on this man? Absolutely sensational hat-trick as he capitalised on every error by Bayern's back line.
Bayern München
- 1M. NeuerCould not do a lot about the penalty kick nor Aguero's second and third but did well on other occasions with some good saves.
- 17J. BoatengInitially took command and played a brilliant cross for Lewandowski's header but cost his game with a lapse in concentration late on.
- 13RafinhaHad to curb his attacking instincts once Bayern lost numerical parity but defended well throughout.
- 20S. RodeSacrificed for Dante in the aftermath of the red card. Had a chance before that.
- 5M. BenatiaA stupid mistake cost his team the early impetus. Should never have tackled at that angle and was deservedly sent off.
- 10A. RobbenAlways a threat due to his pace on the counterattack. Switched to the left on occasion and was no less adept at setting up chances from there.
- 18Juan BernatAn energetic presence on the left flank who made Navas turn and defend. Linked up well with Ribery.
- 34P. HøjbjergAsked to do the work of two men after Rode departed from the centre of midfield and did well. Used the ball intelligently.
- 3Xabi AlonsoCost his team with a late errant pass but, until that point, had been faultless in midfield with accurate distribution and crisp interceptions. Tremendous free kick, too.
- 7F. RibéryDrifted inward to make things happen but his best work was done on the left flank, where he was ably supported by Bernat.
- 9R. LewandowskiNot in the game until he was fouled by Kompany in the lead-up to the Alonso free kick but demonstrated his class with a header past Hart.
